"At just 16 years old, I had a simple dream, to feed people. It was never about creating something fancy. I dreamed of having a restaurant or even a soup kitchen where people could come, feel welcomed, and never leave hungry. That was my idea of retirement long before I understood what building a business would truly require. Life took me on a different journey before that dream found its way home. I started by creating fashionable tops and press printing them myself. That love for creativity eventually grew into a print shop filled with colour, ideas, long nights, and determination. Along the way, I was fortunate to have a mentor whose vision encouraged me to think bigger and lead with purpose. Eventually, the print shop closed. Bills, circumstances and difficult timing brought an important lesson: sometimes a dream has to change shape before it can become reality. Then came Source Kitchen. This was my original dream returning through food, purpose and community. We later introduced a café because, to me, sourcing was always about more than ingredients. It was about sourcing locally, supporting good people, creating opportunities and building something meaningful. Unfortunately, after six months, we found ourselves in the wrong location and we had to close our doors. Two businesses had closed. Two painful lessons had been learned. But the dream remained. With God, the unwavering support of my family, and the belief and assistance of remarkable investors, I found the courage to begin again. And this time, the dream became something bigger. Welcome to Camp Swan Urban Retreat. Camp Swan Urban Retreat was born in the Swan Community along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway, a place created to bring together nature, comfort, creativity, food, fun, religion, family, friends, corporate ventures and meaningful experiences. It is a place to breathe, reconnect, create, relax, recharge and repeat. And the spirit of Source Kitchen lives on through Source Café, now part of the Camp Swan experience. It carries the same heart and commitment to quality, local and international sourcing of products and food prepared with purpose. Today, Camp Swan Urban Retreat is more than a getaway. It is a space for retreats, family gatherings, celebrations, quiet moments, nature experiences and much-needed rest. It is where modern comfort meets the beauty and simplicity of nature. The name crafted from the community represents something deeply personal to our story resilience. Just as a swan moves gracefully across the water despite what may be happening beneath the surface, Camp Swan represents the ability to keep moving forward even after storms. There were moments when the dream could have ended. But it did not. Today, that dream has a home.
